A brief history of Kia

Kia is one of the fastest-growing automotive brands in the UK, with sales increasing by more than 300% in the last five years. The company was established in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry and has since evolved into one of the world's leading manufacturers of vehicles.

As a manufacturer, Kia started in 1944 when three brothers, Mr Kim Byung-Chull, Mr Young-Sam and Mr Ki Chung, opened a small textile business called Chollipo Textile Company. Their first car was produced in 1967 and over time they began to manufacture cars designed for military use. It wasn't until 1975 that Kia began building passenger cars under its own brand name.

The first Kia model was called the Brisa and it was based on Fiat technology purchased from Italy. In 1976 Kia built its first factory and began producing small pick-up trucks - an area where it remains strong today!

Kia became part of Hyundai Motor Corporation back in 1998 but didn't start selling cars in Britain until 2002 when they launched their Sportage SUV model which proved popular with families looking for something different from traditional brands like Land Rover.
