About Care by Volvo

Volvo has decided to enter the car subscription market themselves and offer their own, new cars to people looking for hassle-free car ownership experience. It's the first car manufacturer to do this.

At the time of writing they are offering four different models with different trim options. For example, they offer XC40, XC60, XC90, C40, V60, V90, EX90 and more! These include the "Recharge" range which are Volvo's hybrid and electric EVs.

How does Care by Volvo work?

To get a car on subscription through Care by Volvo you'll need to:

  1. Choose the model and trim you like.
  2. Fill in your details to confirm your account and credit eligibility. (See FAQ for more)
  3. Pick up the car from a local retailer or have it delivered to your home.

The benefit of going with Volvo is that you can really customise the car. But keep in mind, personalised cars can take more than 3 months to arrive, while a pre-built models can be delivered from 4 weeks.

The minimum commitment is 3 months, so you won't be able to switch your car more frequently. Care by Volvo also offers a fixed 36-month subscription with a lower monthly rate.

Driver eligibility and requirements

In order to take a Volvo car on subscription, you must:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Hold a full UK diving licence.
  3. Be a UK resident.
  4. Hold a UK bank account.
  5. Have a UK income paid in GBP.

Volvo's eligibility criteria is very much in line with other subscription services.

For business customers subscription, the eligibility looks like this:

  • Business customers must have been trading for at least 12 months, and be able to show trading activity for this time.
  • Be a Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership or a Sole Trader.

We also have an in-depth guide which explains the driver requirements and eligibility in a lot more detail.

How much does Care by Volvo cost?

There isn’t a sign-up fee or deposit to be paid with Care by Volvo which many will be happy to hear.

Once your car order is confirmed, Volvo will take the first monthly subscription fee as a prepayment. Then once your car has been delivered, you'll be charged to cover month two, essentially your subscription fee is always paid a month in an advance.

Similarly to other car subscription services, your monthly payment will include, road (VED) tax, maintenance, wear & tear (incl. tyres), courtesy car. Home delivery is also free.

Why choose Care by Volvo?

When it comes to convenience, the all-inclusive monthly fee is hard to beat. It's the simplest way to own a car but that always comes at a price. Combine that and the fact that Volvo is not a budget brand at all, you may need to fork out a fair bit more than usual.

On the other hand, considering all expenses related to owning a car are included in the monthly payment, subscribing to a car may be cheaper than buying! However, the fact you can customise the car you want and the flexible terms, means that Care by Volvo can be a great option for many who can afford to enjoy the benefits.
